Room temperature vulcanized silicone (RTV silicone)
Room temperature vulcanized silicone (RTV)according to different vulcanization methods can be divided into single component silicone and double components silicone . The vulcanization reaction of single component RTV depends on the action of moisture in the air then vulcanized into elastomer.The vulcanization reaction of double components RTV is initiated not by moisture in the air but by platinum catalyst. Double components RTV according to different vulcanization mechanism can be divided into condensation type and addition type.Silicone used on garment printing belong to addition type RTV.
Double components RTV silicone
The vulcanization reaction of double components RTV silicone is initiated not by moisture in the air but by catalyst. Usually, raw silicone , filler and crossing linker agent are packaged as one component, catalyst is packaged as another component, or some other combination , but the catalyst and crossing linker agent must be packaged separately. Regardless of what packaging method, curing begins while those two components are completely mixed together. The crossing linker agent commonly use ethyl orthosilicate,catalyst use dibutyltin dilaurate(DBTDL) . Appropriate fillers and additives are added according to the desire of final product. Double components RTV silicone can maintain elasticity for a long time in the temperature -65~250℃ , excellent electrical properties and chemical stability, water resistance, ozone resistance, climate aging resistance, coupled with simple usage, strong process applicability, therefore, widely used as pooping and molding materials.
Double components condensation RTV silicone
Double components condensation RTV silicone is a common type. The raw silicone usually is hydroxy capped polysiloxane, combined with other complexes and catalysts to form a compound with a viscosity range from 100 centistokes to one million centistokes. The curing time of double components condensation RTV silicone mainly depends on the type, amount and temperature of catalyst. The higher the amount of catalyst, the faster the vulcanization and the shorter the operating time. At room temperature, the operating time only a few hours. Use cooling method could extend the operating time. It takes about one whole day for double components condensation RTV to achieve full curing at room temperature, but only 1 hour at 150 ° C,γ-aminopropyl triethoxysilane( fast drying catalyst) can improve curing speed.
Double components addition RTV silicone
Double components addition RTV silicone divide into elastic silicone gel and silicone rubber, the former one lower strength, the latter one higher strength. The vulcanization mechanism base on the addition reaction (hydrosilication reaction) between the vinyl group (or allyl group) on the raw silicone and the silicon hydrogen group on crossing linker agent. In this reaction, no by-products are released. Because in the cross-chain process does not release any low molecular matter, Addition RTV silicone in the vulcanization process does not shrink. This type of vulcanized silicone is non-toxic, high mechanical strength, excellent anti-hydrolysis stability (even under high pressure steam), good low compression deformation, low flammability, deep vulcanization, and vulcanization speed can be controlled by temperature, etc.
