Mastering Hand Printing: How To Avoid Smudging And Misalignment When Using Screen Printing Silicone Ink

Leave a message

When customers visit our factory to learn screen printing silicone ink, they often start with manual printing. However, it's common to face issues such as smudging, blurry edges, or misalignment during the first attempts. These problems usually come from small details in handling and can be solved easily with the right technique.
    1. Check Screen Position and Stability
Before printing, make sure the screen is correctly positioned and firmly fixed. If the screen shifts even slightly, it can cause double images or offset prints.
Tip: Always do 2–3 test prints first to confirm the position before starting your production.
    2. Control Squeegee Pressure and Angle
The way you hold and move the squeegee determines how evenly the screen printing silicone ink passes through the mesh.
Too much pressure can cause the silicone to spread and blur the pattern.
Too little pressure can leave gaps or uneven color.
Tip: Maintain about a 45° angle and use consistent, even force for every stroke.
    3. Fixing Smudging or Ink Build-up
If the print becomes unclear, it often means that screen printing silicone ink has built up on the screen.
    Quick Fix:
Stop printing and gently wipe the screen with the squeegee in an empty area.
Clean the mesh lightly with a small amount of thinner if needed.
Resume printing once the screen is clear.
    4. Preventing Misalignment
Misalignment happens when the screen or fabric moves during printing. Use tape or positioning marks on the table, and keep the frame steady. For multi-color printing, use registration guides to ensure accurate alignment.
    5. Maintain the Right Environment
Temperature affects the flow of silicone ink.
Too hot → ink becomes too thin and causes smudging.
Too cold → ink thickens and doesn't pass through smoothly.
Ideal condition: around 25°C with good ventilation.
    6. Clean After Each Print
After every printing session, clean the screen and squeegee right away to avoid silicone curing and blocking the mesh.
Manual printing is a great way to understand the flow and behavior of screen printing silicone ink. With practice and attention to detail - especially in pressure, alignment, and cleaning - you can achieve professional, sharp, and stable results even by hand.
